Winter in June

Since South Africa is south of the equator, it's actually winter here right now. But winter here is very different from winter in the States. During the day, it's beautiful, sunny, and warm...usually in the 70s or 80s. But around dinnertime, it starts to get cooler. By the time darkness falls, it's in the 30s or 40s!

In my flat, I have an air conditioning unit that blows warm air during the winter, but it really only heats the living room. The rest of the house is freezing! My first night here, I couldn't get my heater to work. I later discovered that it only runs when the kitchen light is on...go figure. Anyhow, I woke up the next morning and could see my breath. Not cool.

I'm getting more used to the cold now. I walk around the house in the evenings dressed in lots of layers and wrapped up in a blanket. I also usually eat my breakfast and my dinner wrapped up in the blanket in front of the heater. It's probably a pretty amusing sight.

So if you are in Illinois right now where I hear that it's been very warm, just know that I'm a little bit jealous of you. But not enough to come home yet. :)

P.S. Thanks so much for all your encouraging comments, emails, and especially your prayers. It means so much to me. I have such wonderful friends!
